A winter bet has turned into a spring windfall for one sports bettor.

Someone bet $500 with SuperBook Sports on Florida Atlantic to make the Final Four in December, per Action Network’s Darren Rovell.

In turn, they took home a stunning payout of $200,000 on Saturday after the Owls defeated Kansas State in the Elite Elite, 79-76.

The bet was made while FAU had 400/1 odds to make it that far in the 2023 men’s NCAA tournament, meaning the $500 that bettor placed was a pretty stark longshot to be cashed when the bet was made in December.

Sometimes, it’s those random bets on the ultimate underdogs that pay the most.

Not all mid-majors can quite do what FAU has accomplished in the 2023 men’s NCAA tournament, but it does seem like a lucky bet on a team like this really can make a difference.
